After a very long break from my blog , I would like to adress an isue that has probably been talked about by lots of people. If you are a member of some sort of Nomads groups on Facebook, then you can see how every day someone posts his or her travel plan (by foot, bike etc) and you might be thinking one or all the following :
How does she have that much time? I work like crazy and maybe even have children whom I have to take care of.
Where on earth did he get the money from? I'm still struggling to survive and pay the rent.
How much money does one need to travel for months? They're like in their 20s, they couldn't have saved so much money.
I want to do that. Ok,maybe not hitchhiking because of all the creeps and not camping because of ,you know, bugs....and wilderness. But I want to go on holidays without feeling like ,when I come back, I have no money left.
If you're not thinking any of that, then have fun on the Seychelles.
So what is the point of this article? Is traveling really expensive? I am 23 years old and have started working in 2015. I live in Europe, so I might be at an advantage because I can literally visit 20 countries which are all within 3000 km . So I did. While I was a student. Not working. My parents are not rich. I just won 500 Euros in a school competition once.
My acommodation was Couchsurfing/hostels. Now, as an (cough) adult, I prefer hotels and Airbnb. I think it's mostly because I'm not traveling alone anymore and Couchsurfing is the new Tinder.
For all you Americans out there, you can fly for less than 350 Dollars to Europe.(return flight included)
So, here are a few tips of how you can travel more than once a year (as a European):
1. Plan in advance. Once you see a good deal, book it and then take holidays.(sometimes hard to do)
2.You don't need a 5 star hotel.
3.Use coupons and discount codes. You can find them online.
4. Use the bus (Flixbus). It's often cheaper than flying, but it takes longer. If you don't mind sitting for hours, you have wifi and entertainment options.
5.Don't eat in the first restaurant you see. Do a little search on google before you go out to eat.Tourist scams are everywhere.
6.You like the beach?Maybe try avoiding Ibiza and Palma de Mallorca and search some other beaches. There are plenty.
7. Have time.( This might be the hardest)
I am very passionate about finding less expensive holidays and I am always glad to help others plan their holidays. If you need help planing your holidays, there is a new section I've added to my blog called " Let me find inexpensive holidays for you" where you can tell me where you would like to go and leave your e-mail address. I will then contact you with the best offers I've found. This is of course free :)
Hope to hear from you all.
